Removal (3.1L & 3.4L)

  1. Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain the fuel tank. See FUEL TANK DRAINING . Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Loosen the fuel filler hose clamp at the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank filler hose from the fuel tank. Disconnect the filler vent pipe near the filler hose/pipe connection. Disconnect the quick-connect fittings at the fuel filter and chassis. See FUEL LINE DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
  3. Disconnect the EVAP pipe from the connection at the front of the fuel tank. Remove the rubber exhaust pipe hangers in order to allow the exhaust system to drop slightly. Separate the two halves of the EVAP fresh air hose at the splice. Remove the push pins from the tank shield, and remove the shield.
  4. Do not bend the fuel tank straps as this may damage the straps. With the aid of an assistant, support the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank strap attaching bolts from the fuel tank straps. Disconnect the fuel sender and the fuel tank pressure sensor electrical connectors at the body pass through. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
