Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Installation

NOTE:
Whenever a NEW camshaft is installed, replace all valve lifters, key, engine oil, and oil filter.
- Install the key in the camshaft. Install the camshaft into the engine block. Coat the camshaft lobes with camshaft and valve lifter Pre Lube GM P/N 1052367 or equivalent. Lubricate the camshaft bearing journals with clean engine oil. Install the thrust plate and bearing and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the timing chain and sprocket to the camshaft. See TIMING CHAIN & SPROCKETS . Install the valve lifters in the engine block. See HYDRAULIC VALVE LIFTERS . Install the oil pump drive in the engine block. Install the radiator to the vehicle. Install the air conditioning condenser to the vehicle. See CONDENSER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in MANUAL A/C HEATER SYSTEMS article.
- Install the grille to the vehicle. Install the air intake duct to the turbocharger. Install the transmission oil level indicator and tube to the upper intake manifold. Install the air cleaner assembly to the vehicle.
- Install the surge tank to the vehicle. Connect the battery negative cables to the batteries and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Refill the cooling system. Recharge the A/C system. See RECOVERY/EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in HVAC.
- Perform TDC Offset Recovery procedure if the timing chain, timing gears, engine front cover, crankshaft position sensor, crankshaft or other components affecting the timing are replaced. See FUEL INJECTION PUMP TDC OFFSET ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the interior engine cover to the vehicle.
