WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 GMC Savana, 2001 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, 2001 Chevrolet Cutaway, and 2001 Chevrolet Chevy Express. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
- Install scan tool. Start engine and allow to run for 2 minutes. Verify engine is at normal operating temperature and in closed loop. Using scan tool, command AIR pump on. If short term fuel trim (applicable bank) indicates a change of more than 16 percent within 30 seconds, go to next step. If short term fuel trim does not indicate a change of more than 16 percent within 30 seconds, go to step 4.
- DTC is intermittent. If any additional DTCs are stored, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If on additional DTCs are stored, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Check applicable bank AIR system for the following:
- Hoses/pipes for proper connections.
- Secure hose clamps.
- Kinks, holes, or pinched hoses/pipes.
- Loose fittings.
- Components with evidence of heat damage.
If problem was found, go to step 8. If problem was not found, go to next step.
- Disconnect AIR hose at applicable bank check valve AIR pump side. Start engine and allow to idle. Using scan tool, command AIR pump on. If air flows from AIR hose, go to next step. If air does not flow from AIR hose, go to step 7.
- Check for restrictions or leaks in check valve and AIR pipe on applicable bank. If problem was found, go to step 8. If problem was not found, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Repair restrictions or leaks in applicable bank AIR hose between check valve and point where system branches to each bank. After repairs, go to step 9.
- Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within code enable criteria. If DTC runs and passes, go to next step. If DTC does not run and pass, go to step 2.
- Using scan tool, observe stored information. If scan tool displays any DTCs that have not been diagnosed, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If scan tool does not display any DTCs, system is okay.
