DTC P0410: Air Injection System: Description

Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump is used on this vehicle to lower tail pipe emissions on start-up. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a ground to AIR pump relay, which energizes AIR pump and AIR solenoid valve. Engine vacuum is applied to AIR shut-off valve when AIR solenoid is energized. Engine vacuum opens AIR shut-off valve which allows AIR to flow to exhaust manifolds. PCM monitors Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) voltages to diagnose AIR system. During AIR test, PCM activates AIR pump during closed loop operation. When AIR system is activated, PCM monitors HO2S voltages and short term fuel trim values for both banks of engine. If AIR system is operating properly, HO2S voltages should go low and Short Term Fuel Trim (STFT) should go high. DTC P0410 sets if PCM determines HO2S voltages for both banks did not respond as expected during tests. If only one sensor responded, PCM sets either a DTC P1415 or P1416 to indicate on which bank AIR system is inoperative.
