DTC P0341: Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Performance: Description
Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor is a sensor designed to detect changes in a magnetic field. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies CMP sensor with a 12-volt reference circuit, a low reference circuit and a signal circuit. CMP sensor produces a magnetic field whenever ignition is on. CMP sensor is mounted near a reluctor wheel that is attached to distributor shaft. When distributor shaft rotates, or when engine is cranking or running, reluctor wheel changes magnetic field. CMP sensor converts each change in magnetic field into a PULSE. Number of teeth on reluctor wheel determines how many pulses CMP sensor detects per camshaft rotation. PCM uses CMP sensor signal to calculate correct timing for Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI). DTC P0341 will set if PCM does not detect CMP signal while engine is running.
