Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. NOTE: Before proceeding with this DTC, diagnose DTC P0335, if active. See DTC P0335: CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT .
  3. Observe the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data for this DTC. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. Does the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  4. Inspect CKP sensor for circuit harnesses and for wires that are routed too close to the following components:
    • Secondary ignition wires or components.
    • After-market add-on electrical equipment.
    • Solenoids, relays, and motors.

    If you find incorrect routing, correct the harness routing. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to next step.

  5. Test for an intermittent and/or poor connections at the CKP sensor. If you find a poor connection, repair the terminal as necessary. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to next step.
  6. Test for an intermittent and/or poor connections at the PCM for the CKP sensor circuits. If you find a poor connection, repair the terminal as necessary. Did you complete the repair? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to next step.
  7. Remove CKP sensor and inspect CKP sensor for the following conditions:
    • Excessive air gap between CKP sensor and reluctor wheel.
    • Physical damage.
    • Improper installation.
    • Electromagnetic interference in the CKP sensor circuits.
    • Foreign material passing between the CKP sensor and the reluctor wheel.

    Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to next step.

  8. Inspect CKP reluctor wheel for proper installation, damage or looseness. See appropriate article in ENGINES. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step  9. If no, go to next step.
  9. Replace CKP sensor. See CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR under SENSORS in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION - CORVETTE article. Did you complete the replacement? If yes, go to next step.
  10. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds. Start the engine. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. Did the DTC fail this ignition cycle? If yes, go to step  2. If no, go to next step.
  11. Observe the Capture Info with a scan tool. Are there any DTCs that have not been diagnosed? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
