Removal (Right)

WARNING:
Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.
NOTE:
Right exhaust manifold is located in rear of engine compartment.
- Loosen the clamp at air cleaner assembly and throttle body assembly. Remove attachment bolts from outlet resonator/air cleaner duct assembly-to-support bracket. Remove the outlet resonator/air cleaner duct assembly. Disconnect purge solenoid from the manifold to allow sufficient clearance when removing the upper exhaust manifold nut. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the middle exhaust manifold nut using a boxed end wrench.NOTE: DO NOT apply silicon products to the oxygen sensor.
- Disconnect right cylinder bank Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) #1 harness connector at the rear of the engine. See Fig 1.CAUTION: Excessive flexing of the exhaust pipe may damage the flex coupling. Limit flexing to 12 degrees.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the right downpipe Oxygen Sensor (O2S). Remove the exhaust pipe flange-to-rear exhaust manifold nuts. Remove the exhaust pipe flange-to-intermediate pipe nuts. Separate the hanger from the rubber isolator. Separate the flange from the studs, and remove the rear exhaust pipe. Remove the oxygen sensors if transferring to NEW exhaust pipes.NOTE: Due to a clearance issue, when removing rear exhaust manifold, with Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S), the right hand side of stabilizer bar must be rotated and positioned away from exhaust manifold.NOTE: DO NOT allow the stud to rotate when removing or installing the right hand stabilizer nut. Secure the stud with a wrench while removing or installing the nut to prevent damage to the link.
- Remove the right hand stabilizer bar-to-frame mounting bolts. See Fig 2. Remove the left and right hand stabilizer bar-to-lower link nut and discard the nut. Remove the exhaust heat shield bolts. Remove the exhaust heat shield. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts to the cylinder head. Remove the rear exhaust manifold and gasket.
