Removal (Left)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the front Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) from harness connector at side of the engine. Using Sensor Wrench (J-39119), remove front HO2S.
  2. Remove coolant extension pipe and engine lift bracket bolt. Remove oil level indicator and tube. Remove the upper exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head nuts. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Oxygen (O2) Sensor. Remove the exhaust pipe flange to front exhaust manifold nuts. Remove the exhaust pipe crossover flange nuts.
NOTE: Hold the link stud from rotating when removing nut. Discard the used nuts.
CAUTION: Excessive flexing of the exhaust pipe may damage the flex coupling. Limit flexing to 12 degrees.
  3. Remove the left and right lower stabilizer link to stabilizer nuts. Remove the right side stabilizer bar to cradle bolts. Rotate the stabilizer bar upward to provide clearance for the exhaust pipe removal. Separate the downpipe from the exhaust pipe, twist/rotate to clear the rear flange and remove. Fully remove and discard the used gaskets. Remove the oxygen sensor if transferring to a NEW exhaust pipe.
  4. Remove the right hand splash shield. Complete accessory drive belt removal is not required. Loosen and remove accessory drive belt from pulleys as necessary.
NOTE: DO NOT open A/C refrigerant system. The A/C compressor and lines will remain connected throughout this procedure. The A/C system will not need to be evacuated.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector at the A/C compressor and pressure transducer. Remove the A/C compressor-to-A/C bracket bolts. Remove the A/C compressor and support away from the exhaust manifold assembly with tie straps.
  6. Remove the exhaust manifold nuts. Remove the exhaust manifold assembly. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket. See Fig 1.
