Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 GMC Safari and 2003 Chevrolet Astro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: Never drain or store fuel in an open container due to the possibility of fire or explosion. When draining the fuel tank, slowly insert the hand operated pump device in the fuel tank. Do not force the hand operated pump device in the fuel tank. Forcing the pump device can cause the fuel pump to dislocate from the fuel sender assembly.
NOTE: Numbers in parentheses refer to numbers in illustration.

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain the fuel tank to a level below that of the fuel tank filler tube using a hand-operated pump. Remove the fuel filler tube to the fuel filler pocket screws (1). See Fig 1 . Raise and support the vehicle. Wipe the fuel filler tube connection at the fuel tank with a clean cloth and then disconnect the fuel filler tube clamp (3). Remove the fuel fill tube attaching screw (2) and the fuel filler tube. To install reverse removal procedure. Tighten clamps and screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
