Test C: Blower Motor Inoperative

NOTE: For circuit reference, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and/or WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
NOTE: Definition: The blower motor is inoperative in all speed positions.
  1. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Set blower motor switch in each speed position. If blower motor does not operate in any speed position, go to next step. If blower motor operates in any speed position, go to TEST D: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to ground, probe blower motor harness connector terminal "A". If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  6.
  4. Connect test light between blower motor harness connector terminals. If test light illuminates, go to step  8. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  5. Check Black wire between ground and blower motor harness connector terminal "B" for open or high resistance. See Figure. Repair Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  16. If wire is okay, go to step  9.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor resistor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Set blower motor switch to minimum speed position. Using test light connected to ground, probe blower motor resistor harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to step  9. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HVAC control panel harness connectors. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to ground, probe HVAC control panel harness connector C1 terminal "B" (Brown wire). See Fig 2. If test light illuminates, go to step  11. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  12.
  8. Check for poor connections or connector damage at blower motor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  13.
  9. Visually inspect wiring harness between blower motor and blower motor resistor for open or damage. Repair wiring harness as necessary. After repair, go to step  16. If wiring harness is okay, go to next step.
  10. Check for poor connections or connector damage at blower motor resistor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  14.
  11. Check for poor connections or connector damage at HVAC control panel harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  16. If connections are okay, go to step  15.
  12. Repair open or high resistance in Brown wire between HVAC control panel harness connector C1 terminal "B" and HVAC CTRL Fuse (10-amp) located in instrument panel fuse block. After repair, go to step  16.
  13. Replace blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  16.
  14. Replace blower motor resistor. See BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step  16.
  15. Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  16. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step  2.
