Test B: Blower Motor Always On

NOTE:
Definition: The blower motor is on while the blower motor switch is in the OFF position.
- If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Place blower motor switch in OFF position. If blower motor is off, check wiring systems and connectors for loose, damaged or poor connections. If blower motor is on, go to next step.
- Ensure blower motor switch is in OFF position. Turn ignition off. Disconnect blower motor resistor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to ground, individually probe blower motor resistor harness connector terminals "A" (Tan wire), "B" (Yellow wire), "C" (Purple wire) and "D" (Light Blue wire). See Fig 1. If any wire causes test light to illuminate, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 5.
- Check suspect blower motor control circuit for short to voltage. WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair suspect wire as necessary. After repair, go step 10. If wire is okay, go to step 7.
- Visually inspect blower motor supply circuit for short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 10. If short to voltage is not found, go to next step.
- Check for poor connections or connector damage at blower motor resistor harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 10. If connections are okay, go to step 8.
- Check for poor connections or connector damage at HVAC control panel harness connector. Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 10. If connections are okay, go to step 9.
- Replace blower motor resistor See BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to step 10.
- Replace HVAC control assembly. See HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step 2.
