Manual Bleeding

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: DO NOT use a mineral or paraffin base oil in clutch hydraulic system. Damage to rubber parts in cylinders will occur.
  1. Ensure master cylinder reservoir is filled to capacity. Attach a clear line to the bleed screw with the loose end submerged in a small container of clean clutch hydraulic fluid.
  2. Actuate the clutch pedal 5 times at a normal speed by stroking it all the way to the pedal stop in both directions.
  3. Actuate the clutch pedal quickly 10-15 times without bringing the pedal all the way up, 1.18-1.51" (30-40 mm) short of stop at pedal.
  4. Repeat steps  2 and  3 5 times.
  5. Hold the pedal at up stop and open the bleed screw. Stroke the pedal to the floor normally and close the bleed screw. Lift the pedal to up stop position. Repeat this step 3 times.
  6. Tighten the bleed screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Remove the bleed line from the bleed screw. Road test vehicle. Repeat procedure as necessary.
