Test C: Air Delivery Improper - Passenger Van With Auxiliary HVAC

NOTE: Definition: Air does not flow correctly from the auxiliary air distribution outlets.
  1. If review of system operation has been performed, go to next step. If review of system operation has not been performed, see DESCRIPTION  and OPERATION  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Place rear auxiliary blower switch in maximum speed position. Place front auxiliary blower switch in the OFF position. If auxiliary blower motor is off, go to next step. If auxiliary blower motor is on, go to TEST G: BLOWER MOTOR ALWAYS ON - WITH AUXILIARY HEATER or CARGO VAN WITH AUXILIARY HVAC  or TEST H: BLOWER MOTOR ALWAYS ON - PASSENGER VAN WITH AUXILIARY HVAC  .
  3. Place front auxiliary blower switch in REAR CNTL position. Place rear auxiliary blower switch in the OFF position. If auxiliary blower motor is off, go to next step. If auxiliary blower motor is on, go to TEST G: BLOWER MOTOR ALWAYS ON - WITH AUXILIARY HEATER or CARGO VAN WITH AUXILIARY HVAC  or TEST H: BLOWER MOTOR ALWAYS ON - PASSENGER VAN WITH AUXILIARY HVAC  .
  4. Turn parking lights on. Place instrument panel dimmer switch in the brightest position. Place auxiliary blower switch in each speed position. If auxiliary blower motor operates in any speed position, go to next step. If auxiliary blower motor does not operates in any speed position, go to TEST I: BLOWER MOTOR INOPERATIVE - AUXILIARY .
  5. If auxiliary blower motor operates in each speed position, go to next step If blower motor does not operate in each speed position, go to TEST J: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION - AUXILIARY .
  6. Place front auxiliary blower switch in REAR CNTL position. Place rear auxiliary blower switch in each speed position. If auxiliary blower motor operates properly in each speed position, go to next step. If auxiliary blower motor does not operate properly in each speed position, go to TEST J: BLOWER MOTOR MALFUNCTION - AUXILIARY .
  7. Place front auxiliary blower switch in the maximum speed position. Gradually change front auxiliary mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. If air flows from the proper outlets, go to next step. If air does not flow from the proper outlets, go to step  9.
  8. Parking lights must remain on, with instrument panel dimmer switch in the brightest position for this step. Place front auxiliary blower switch in the REAR CNTL position. Place rear auxiliary blower switch in maximum speed position. Gradually change rear auxiliary mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. If air flows from the proper outlets, check wiring, components and connections for intermittent conditions which could cause condition. If air does not flow from the proper outlets, go to step  19.
  9. Turn parking lights off. Place front auxiliary blower switch in REAR CNTL position. Place rear auxiliary blower switch in maximum speed position. Gradually change rear auxiliary mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. If air flows from the proper outlets, go to step  16. If air does not flow from the proper outlets, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition off. Disconnect auxiliary mode actuator. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to ground, probe auxiliary mode actuator connector terminal No. 10 (Brown wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  28.
  11. Check auxiliary mode actuator ground circuit (Black wire) for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to next step.
  12. Using a DVOM, measure voltage at auxiliary mode actuator connector between terminals No. 7 and 8. See Figure. Gradually change auxiliary mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. If measured voltage continuously increases and decreases between zero volts in VENT position to 12 volts in FLOOR position, go to step  23. If measured voltage does not continuously increase and decrease zero-12 volts from VENT position to FLOOR position, go to next step.
  13. Check auxiliary mode door control circuit (Light Blue wire) between auxiliary mode door actuator and auxiliary HVAC control processor for an open, high resistance, short to ground, or short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a circuit problem was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a circuit problem was not found, go to next step.
  14. Check ignition 3 voltage circuit (Brown wire) for an open or high resistance between auxiliary HVAC control processor and instrument panel fuse block. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to next step.
  15. Check ground circuit (Black wire) of auxiliary HVAC control processor for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to step  27.
  16. Turn ignition off. Disconnect harness connector from auxiliary HVAC control processor. Turn ignition on. Place front auxiliary blower switch in minimum speed position. Using a DVOM, measure auxiliary mode door control circuit (Light Blue wire) voltage at auxiliary HVAC control processor harness connector, while moving mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage changes from zero volts in VENT position to 12 volts in FLOOR position, go to step  27. If voltage does not change as specified, go to next step.
  17. Check auxiliary mode door control circuit (Light Blue wire) between front auxiliary HVAC control assembly and auxiliary HVAC control processor for an open, high resistance, short to ground, or short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a circuit problem was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a circuit problem was not found, go to next step.
  18. Check front auxiliary HVAC control assembly ignition 3 voltage circuit (Brown wire) for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to step  25.
  19. Turn ignition off. Disconnect auxiliary HVAC control processor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Turn parking lights on, with instrument panel light dimmer switch in the brightest position. Using a DVOM, measure auxiliary mode door control circuit (Light Blue wire) voltage at rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly harness connector, while moving mode switch from VENT position to FLOOR position. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage changes from zero volts in VENT position to 12 volts in FLOOR position, go to step  27. If voltage does not change as specified, go to next step.
  20. Check auxiliary mode door control circuit (Light Blue wire) between rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly and auxiliary HVAC control processor for an open, high resistance, short to ground, or short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If a circuit problem was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a circuit problem was not found, go to next step.
  21. Check rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly ignition 3 voltage circuit (Brown wire) for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to next step.
  22. Check rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly ground circuit (Black wire) for an open or high resistance. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If an open or high resistance was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If an open or high resistance was not found, go to step  26.
  23. Check auxiliary mode door and actuator for incorrect installation. Check mode door and actuator for broken or binding linkage, and obstructions preventing auxiliary mode door from operating within its full range. If an auxiliary mode door or actuator condition was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a mode door or actuator condition was not found, go to next step.
  24. Check harness connector at auxiliary mode door actuator for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a poor connection was not found, go to step  29.
  25. Check harness connector at front auxiliary HVAC control assembly for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a poor connection was not found, go to step  30.
  26. Check harness connector at rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a poor connection was not found, go to step  31.
  27. Check harness connector at auxiliary HVAC control processor for a poor connection. If a poor connection was found, repair as necessary and go to step  33. If a poor connection was not found, go to step  32.
  28. Repair the open or high resistance condition in auxiliary mode actuator ignition 3 voltage circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If the repair is complete, go to step  33.
  29. Replace auxiliary mode actuator. See ACTUATORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  33.
  30. Replace front auxiliary HVAC control assembly. See FRONT AUXILIARY HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  33.
  31. Replace rear auxiliary HVAC control assembly. See REAR AUXILIARY HVAC CONTROL ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  33.
  32. Replace auxiliary HVAC control processor. See AUXILIARY HVAC CONTROL PROCESSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  33. Operate system to verify repair. If the condition has been corrected, system is okay. If the condition has not been corrected, go to step  3.
