Diagnostic Procedures

- Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS .
- Start engine. Monitor the DTC information with scan tool. Does the scan tool display any other DTCs set? If yes, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, go to next step.
- Observe the Freeze Frame/Failure Records for this DTC. Turn ignition off for 90 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records. Does the DTC fail this ignition? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn OFF all accessories. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Idle the engine. Observe the MAF sensor voltage with a scan tool. Is the MAF sensor voltage less than 1.0-1.6 volts? If yes, go to DTC P0102: MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR CIRCUIT - LOW SIGNAL/FREQUENCY . If no, go to next step.
- Observe the MAF sensor voltage with a scan tool. Is the MAF sensor voltage more than 1.0-1.6 volts? If yes, go to DTC P0103: MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR CIRCUIT - HIGH SIGNAL/FREQUENCY . If no, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off for 30 seconds. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Observe the TP sensor angle with a scan tool. Depress the accelerator pedal completely. Is the TP sensor angle within 98-100 percent? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DTC P0121: TP SENSOR CIRCUIT INSUFFICIENT ACTIVITY .
- Inspect for a restricted air intake duct, collapsed air intake duct, misaligned air intake duct, dirty air filter element, deteriorating air filter element, skewed or stuck ECT sensor, skewed or stuck IAT sensor, object blocking the air inlet screen of MAF sensor, debris on air diffuser of MAF sensor, debris or contamination on the sensing element of MAF sensor, carbon buildup on the throttle blade, vacuum leak downstream of MAF sensor, or any type of restriction in the exhaust system. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 10. If no, go to next step.
- Inspect for a poor connection at the MAF sensor. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 10. If no, go to next step.
- Replace MAF/IAT sensor. After replacing sensor, go to next step.
- Clear the DTCs with a scan tool. Turn ignition off for 90 seconds. Start engine. Operate vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. See CONDITIONS FOR RUNNING DTC . Did the DTC fail this ignition? If yes, go to step 2. If no, go to next step.
- With a scan tool, observe the stored information, Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
NOTE:
If you were sent here from DTC P0171, proceed to step 4.
