Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If body rear end system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform BODY REAR END SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing body rear end system diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, engine off. Observe rear compartment occupant sensor lighted disable switch. Check for obstructions around rear compartment occupant sensor. Rear compartment occupant sensor is located inside rear compartment, under center of package shelf. Wave a hand under sensor. If lighted disable switch illuminates, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  . If lighted disable switch does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. Replace rear compartment occupant sensor. See REAR COMPARTMENT OCCUPANT SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  4. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions for running DTC as specified in CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  . If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
