Transaxle (2003): Installation

    CAUTION: Ensure the transaxle is secured properly to the transmission jack.
  1. Position the transaxle onto a transmission jack and secure the transaxle to the transmission jack.
  2. Install the transaxle into the vehicle.
  3. Install the transaxle to engine bolt (6) and stud (1). See Figure . Tighten the bolt and the stud to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the transaxle brace. See TRANSAXLE BRACE  .
  5. Install appropriate flywheel holder in order to gain access to install the torque converter bolts and to prevent the flywheel from turning.
  6. Install the torque converter bolts. See Figure . Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install the drive shafts into the transaxle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  8. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the transaxle. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in SERVICING - CENTURY & REGAL article.
  9. Install the starter motor. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
  10. Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle.
  11. Install the frame to the vehicle. See FRAME REPLACEMENT  .
  12. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
  13. Install the left and the right engine splash shield.
  14. Install the front wheels. Tighten the lug nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
  16. Remove the engine support fixture. See ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE  .
  17. Install the upper transaxle to engine bolts (3, 4 and 5), and stud (2). See Figure . Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  18. Install the transaxle wiring harness grounds and the nuts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  19. Connect the transaxle wiring harness electrical connectors.
  20. Install the transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle range selector cable bracket. See Figure .
  21. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer to the cable. See Figure .
  22. Install the transaxle range selector cable to the transaxle shift lever.
  23. Install the air cleaner intake duct. See AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT  .
  24. Connect the negative (-) battery cable. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  25. Fill the transaxle with automatic transmission fluid to specification. See LUBRICATION in SERVICING - CENTURY & REGAL article.
  26. Inspect for automatic transmission fluid leaks.
