Idle Air Control Valve: Installation

- Lubricate the IAC valve seal with clean engine oil.
- Install the IAC valve into the throttle body. Install a NEW IAC valve screw and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the IAC valve harness connector.
- Install air cleaner outlet resonator, air cleaner intake duct and vent hose.
- Reset the IAC valve pintle using the following procedure:
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with the engine off.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 10 seconds.
- Start the engine and check for proper idle operation.
CAUTION:
The IAC valve may be damaged if installed with the cone (pintle) extended more than 1-1/8" (28 mm). Measure the distance that the valve is extended before installing a new valve. The distance from the idle air control valve motor housing to the end of the idle air control valve pintle should be less than 1-1/8" (28 mm). Manually compress the pintle until the extension is less than 1-1/8" (28 mm).
- Install the NEW Idle Air Control (IAC) valve "O" ring.
- Install the IAC valve into the throttle body. See Figure .
- Install the IAC valve attaching screws. Tighten the screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the IAC harness connector. See Figure .
- Position the EVAP canister purge valve on the intake manifold.
- Install the EVAP canister purge valve retaining bolt. Tighten the purge valve retaining bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the purge valve harness connector.
- Connect the canister purge valve pipe and the vacuum supply hose.
- Install the accelerator cable bracket to the throttle body. See Figure .
- Install the nuts and bolts. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Connect the accelerator cable into the accelerator cable bracket.
- Connect the accelerator cable cross slug to the throttle body slots. See Figure .
