DTC B0272: RECIRCULATION Actuator

NOTE: The numbers below refer to the step numbers of the diagnostic procedure.
  1. - Tests for the proper operation of the circuit in the high voltage range.
  2. - Tests for the proper operation of the circuit in the low voltage range. If the fuse in the jumper opens when you perform this test, the signal circuit is shorted to voltage.
  3. - Tests for a short to ground in the 5 volt reference circuit.
  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing system check, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter in INSTRUMENT PANEL MODULE data list. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is 13-250 counts (0.25-4.9 volts), inspect wiring and connectors for intermittent loose wires and/or poor connections. Also check for a disconnected or broken door/linkage. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is not 13-250 counts (0.25-4.9 volts), go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect recirculation actuator. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is more than 250 counts (4.9 volts), go to next step. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is 250 counts (4.9 volts) or less, go to test  10.
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect 3-amp. fused jumper wire between terminals No. 9 (Purple wire) and No. 7 (Yellow wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter. If AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is 13 counts (0.25 volts) or more, go to step  11. If AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is not 13 counts (0.25 volts), go to next step.
  5. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 9 (Purple wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. If voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Purple wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A4 of IPM and go to step  15. If voltage does not exist, check continuity in Purple wire between terminal No. 9 of recirculation actuator and terminal A4 of IPM. If continuity exists, go to step  15. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Purple wire and go to step  15.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect jumper wire. Reconnect jumper wire between terminal No. 6 (Dark Green wire) and terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is more than 250 counts (4.9 volts), go to step  8. If scan tool indicates AIR INLET DR ACTUAL parameter is 250 counts (4.9 volts) or less, go to next step.
  7. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Gray wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A1 of Instrument Panel Module (IPM). If continuity does not exist, check for loose wires or poor connections at IPM and go to step  15. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace IPM. See INSTRUMENT PANEL MODULE (IPM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION and go to step  15.
  8. Check for voltage between ground and terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. If voltage exists, repair short to ground in Gray wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A1 of IPM and go to step  15. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  9. Check continuity in Gray wire between terminal No. 10 of recirculation actuator and terminal A1 of Instrument Panel Module (IPM). See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, go to step  14. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Gray wire.
  10. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 6 (Dark Green wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. SeeFigure. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A10 of IPM and go to step  15. If continuity does not exist, check for loose wires and/or poor connections at IPM. If wiring and connectors are okay, replace IPM. See INSTRUMENT PANEL MODULE (IPM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to step  15.
  11. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 6 (Dark Green wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. If voltage exists, repair short voltage in Dark Green wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A10 of IPM and go to step  15. See Figure. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  12. Check continuity in Dark Green wire between terminals No. 6 of recirculation actuator and terminal A10 of IPM. See Figure and Figure . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Dark Green wire and go to step  15.
  13. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 7 (Yellow wire) of recirculation actuator harness connector. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open or high resistance in Yellow wire between recirculation actuator and terminal A7 of Instrument Panel Module (IPM) and go to step  15.
  14. Check recirculation actuator for a misaligned recirculation actuator, broken or binding linkages, any obstruction that might prevent recirculation actuator from opening within it's full range of motion, missing or misaligned recirculation door seals or a broken recirculation door. Repair as necessary and go to next step. If no problems were found, check for loose wires or poor connections at recirculation actuator. If wiring and connections are okay, replace recirculation actuator. See RECIRCULATION ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION and go to step  15.
  15. Use scan tool to clear DTCs. Operate vehicle and verify that DTCs do not reset. If DTCs reset, go to step  2. If DTCs do not reset, system is okay.
