Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Cadillac Seville, 2003 Cadillac DeVille, 2002 Cadillac Seville, and 2002 Cadillac DeVille. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Complete the following if previously removed from the transaxle:
    • Install the rear transaxle bracket.
    • Install the left transaxle bracket.
    • Install the transaxle cooler pipe.
    NOTE: Ensure clearance is maintained between the transaxle and the following:
    • The brake pipes.
    • The secondary A.I.R. pipe.
    • The power steering pressure hose.
    • The wiring harnesses.
  2. Carefully raise the transaxle to the engine in a tilted position in order to clear the starter nose cone.
  3. Align the transaxle with the engine and position the transaxle onto the engine dowels.
  4. Install the engine-to-transaxle bolt (2). See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  5. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
  6. Install the engine-to-transaxle center brace and heat shield. See Fig 1 .

  7. Install the front transaxle brace-to-transaxle bolts. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Raise the transaxle and install the transaxle mount-to-transaxle mount bracket nut (1). See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  9. Remove the transaxle jack and adapter.
    NOTE: Line up the flywheel and torque converter using the alignment marks made during disassembly.
  10. Install the flywheel-to-torque converter bolts. See Figure . Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  11. Install the torque converter cover assembly.
  12. Install the engine-to-transaxle bracket lower bolt (1). See Figure . Tighten the bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  13. Install the right and left axle shafts (2) to the transaxle (1). See Figure . See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  14. Install the 3 ground connections to the side of the transaxle. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  15. Connect the transaxle main electrical harness connector.
  16. Install the left transaxle brace to the powertrain assembly.
  17. Install the left transaxle brace-to-transaxle bolt. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  18. Install the front frame assembly to the vehicle. See FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY  .
  19. Install the left front fascia extension push-in retainers securing the front fascia extension to the vehicle.
  20. Install the stabilizer shaft links. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Connect the lower transaxle oil cooler pipe to the transaxle. See Figure .
  23. Install the upper transaxle oil cooler pipe to the radiator. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  24. Install the remaining transaxle-to-engine bolts (1). See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  25. Remove the engine support fixture.
  26. Install the range selector cable bracket to the studs on the transaxle.
  27. Install the heater pipe to the stud on the transaxle.
  28. Install the nuts that retain the heater pipe and the range selector cable bracket to the transaxle. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  29. Connect the range selector cable terminal to the transaxle range selector lever.
  30. Install the Magnisteer wire to the retaining clip.
  31. Connect the transaxle vent tube to the accelerator bracket.
  32. Install the brake pipe retainers to the side rail.
  33. Install the upper and lower air cleaner assemblies.
  34. Install the upper filler panel. See Figure .
  35. Flush the transaxle cooler. See appropriate SERVICING article as follows:
    • 2002 models - see LUBRICATION in SERVICING - DEVILLE, ELDORADO & SEVILLE article.
    • 2003 models - see LUBRICATION in SERVICING - DEVILLE & SEVILLE article.
  36. Add transaxle fluid as required. See appropriate SERVICING article.
  37. Check the front suspension alignment, adjust the toe as necessary.
  38. Clear the transaxle adaptive pressures (TAPS). See appropriate DIAGNOSIS article.
  39. Check the front end alignment.
  40. Road test the vehicle and check for transaxle leaks.
