With Daytime Running Lights

- If brake warning system diagnostic system description and operation has been reviewed, go to next step. If brake warning system description and operation has not been reviewed, go to BRAKE WARNING under INDICATORS in OPERATION.
- Verify fault exists. If brake warning indicator does not operate properly, go to next step. If brake warning indicator functions normally, check for intermittent or poor connections. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position for 5 seconds, then turn ignition switch to RUN position while observing brake warning indicator. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate for 3 seconds and turn off, go to next step. If brake warning indicator illuminates for 3 seconds, then turns off, go to step 5 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Select 4WAL 3 SENSOR CURRENT DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES function on scan tool. If scan tool does not display DTC C0286, go to step 11 . If scan tool displays DTC C0286, diagnose and repair anti-lock brake system fault. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES.
- Apply parking brake. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If brake warning indicator illuminates, go to step 20 .
- Crank or start engine while observing brake warning indicator. If brake warning indicator illuminates when ignition switch is turned to START position, go to next step. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate when ignition switch is turned to START position, go to step 13 .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect park brake warning switch harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between ground and park brake warning switch harness connector terminal "A" (Light Blue wire). If brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If brake warning indicator illuminates, go to step 9 .
- Repair open in Light Blue wire between brake warning switch, ignition switch and DRL module. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check park brake warning switch connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace park brake warning switch. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect EBCM 10-pin harness connector. Connect a jumper wire between ground and EBCM harness connector terminal "B" (Light Green wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If brake warning indicator illuminates, go to step 25 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect EBCM harness connector. Remove IPC. Connect test light between IPC harness connector terminals A13 (Tan/White wire) and B11 (Orange wire). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If test light does not illuminate for 3 seconds, then turn off, go to step 16 . If test light illuminates for 3 seconds, then turns off, go to step 17 .
- Check DRL control module connector, below center of instrument panel, right of steering column, for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check for open in Tan/White wire between DRL control module harness connector terminal "C" and IPC harness connector terminal A13. If Tan/White wire is okay, go to next step. If Tan/White wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace DRL control module. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Repair open in Tan/White wire (brake warning indicator circuit) between DRL control module and IPC or Purple wire (ABS pressure differential sensor signal circuit) between EBCM and brake pressure differential switch. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check brake warning indicator bulb for an open filament. If bulb is okay, go to next step. If bulb is not okay, replace as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check IPC connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace IPC. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Disconnect brake pressure differential switch harness connector. Brake pressure differential switch is part of EBCM, located on left frame rail, near the center of the vehicle. Connect a jumper wire between ground and brake pressure differential switch connector terminal "A" (Purple wire). If brake warning indicator illuminates, go to next step. If brake warning indicator does not illuminate, go to step 22 .
- Check for open in Black wire (brake pressure differential switch ground circuit) between ground and brake pressure differential switch harness connector terminal "B". If Black wire is okay, go to step 23 .
- Repair open in Purple wire (brake pressure differential sensor signal circuit) between brake pressure differential sensor switch and EBCM. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check brake pressure differential switch connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace brake pressure differential switch. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Check EBCM connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 27 .
- Replace EBCM. Perform tire size calibration procedure. See appropriate ELECTRONIC BRAKE CONTROL MODULE & BRAKE PRESS in ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step 3 .
