Test F: Volt Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. If Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If IPC diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Compare scan tool IGNITION VOLTAGE parameter in SIR DATA list to volt gauge display. If ignition parameter does not match volt gauge display, go to next step. If ignition parameter matches volt gauge display, problem may be intermittent. Try to recreate fault by wiggling wiring and connectors. Check for faulty connections at all connectors that may be causing intermittent condition. Verify charging system is operating properly, perform ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK in GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in ELECTRICAL.
  3. Replace IPC. After repair, go next step.
  4. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If fault still exists, go to step  2 .
