DTC B2958: PASSLOCK(tm) SENSOR DATA CIRCUIT HIGH: Testing

- If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Momentarily turn ignition switch to CRANK position, not letting engine start, release ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Passlock(tm) data voltage in Passlock(tm) module Data list. If scan tool indicates Passlock(tm) data voltage is not 0.4-4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates Passlock(tm) data voltage is 0.4-4.9 volts, check for intermittent or poor connections. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Passlock(tm) sensor 3-pin harness connector at base of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Passlock(tm) data voltage in Passlock(tm) module security data list. If scan tool indicates Passlock(tm) data voltage as more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates Passlock(tm) data voltage as 4.9 volts or less, go to step 9 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect a fused (3-amp) jumper between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 (Yellow wire) and No. 2 (Orange/Black wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Monitor Passlock(tm) data voltage in Passlock(tm) module data list. If scan tool indicates less than 0.4 volt, go to next step. If scan tool indicates 0.4 volt or more, go to step 7 .
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between Passlock(tm) sensor connector terminals No. 2 (Orange/Black wire) and No. 3 (Red/White wire). If less than 12 volts exists, go to next step. If 12 volts or more exist, go to step 11 .
- Check for open or high resistance in Red/White wire between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 3 and Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal A5. If Red/White wire is okay, go to step 9 . If Red/White wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 14 .
- Check for short to voltage, open or high resistance in Yellow wire between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 1 and Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal B5. If Yellow wire is okay, go to next step. If Yellow wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 14 .
- Check for open or high resistance in Orange/Black wire between Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 and Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal B5. If Orange/Black wire is okay, go to next step. If Orange/Black wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 14 .
- Check Passlock(tm) module connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 14 .
- Check Passlock(tm) sensor connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 13 .
- Replace Passlock(tm) module. After repair, go to step 13 .
- Replace Passlock(tm) sensor. After repair, go to next step.
- Perform programming theft deterrent system components procedure. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS .
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Momentarily turn ignition switch to CRANK position, not letting engine start, then to RUN position. Select Passlock(tm) module DISPLAY DTC function. If DTC B2958 does not reset, go to next step. If DTC B2958 resets, go to step 3 .
- Attempt to start vehicle. If engine starts and runs, system is okay at this time. If engine does not start and run, go to step 3 .
