DTC B2947: PASSLOCK(tm) SENSOR POWER CIRCUIT LOW: Testing

  1. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If theft deterrent diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to THEFT DETERRENT DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located below steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select DISPLAY DTCs function for Passlock(tm) module. If scan tool displays DTC B2847 as a current DTC, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC B2947 as a current DTC, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Disconnect Passlock(tm) sensor 3-pin harness connector at base of steering column. Measure voltage between ground and Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal A5 (Red/White wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . See Figure . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step  7 .
  4. Check for short to ground in Red/White wire between Passlock(tm) module harness connector terminal A5 and Passlock(tm) sensor harness connector terminal No. 3. If Red/White wire is okay, go to next step. If Red/White wire is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  5. Check Passlock(tm) module connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check Passlock(tm) sensor connector for intermittent or poor terminal contact. If terminal contact is okay, go to next step. If terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Replace Passlock(tm) module. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace Passlock(tm) sensor. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Perform reprogramming procedure. See PROGRAMMING THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM COMPONENTS  . After programming, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select Passlock(tm) module DISPLAY DTCs function. If DTC B2947 does not reset, system is okay at this time. If DTC B2947 resets, go to step  3 .
