Test Q: High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. Check operation of exterior lights. If exterior lights are operating properly, go to next step. If exterior lights are not operating properly, repair exterior light system as necessary. See appropriate EXTERIOR LIGHTS article.
  2. Turn headlight switch to HEAD position. Turn headlight dimmer switch to high beam position. If fog lights do not illuminate, go to next step. If high beam indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If high beam indicator illuminates, check for an intermittent or poor connections in related circuits. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Observe high beams. If high beams operate properly, go to next step. If high beams do not operate properly, repair headlight system as necessary. See appropriate HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article.
  4. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) C1 harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and IPC harness connector C1 terminal "D" (Light Green wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair open or high resistance in Light Green wire between IPC harness connector C1 terminal "D", fog light relay harness connector and headlight dimmer switch. See appropriate HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article. After repair, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  7. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
