Test C: Driver Information Center Compass Inaccurate Or "C" Displayed

  1. If Driver Information Center (DIC) diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DIC diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Ensure compass is inaccurate or "C" is displayed. If system does not operate properly, go to next step. If system operates properly, check for an intermittent or poor connections in related circuits. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  .
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If compass display is blank, go to next step. If compass display is not blank, go to step  7 .
  4. If CAL or "C" is displayed, go to next step. If CAL or "C" is not displayed, go to step  6 .
  5. Perform compass calibration procedure. See AUTOMATIC CALIBRATION  under COMPASS CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If compass display remains inaccurate or displays a "C", go to next step. If compass display is normal, or no longer displays "C", go to step  8 .
  6. Perform compass variation procedure. See MANUAL CALIBRATION  under COMPASS CALIBRATION under PROGRAMMING. If compass does not operate properly, go to next step. If compass operates properly, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace DIC. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair. If system does not operate properly, go to step  2 . If system operates properly, system is okay.
