Seat Belt Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Try to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  3. Using scan tool, read BCM DTCs. Record all displayed DTCs and status of displayed DTCs. If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, system is okay.
  4. If scan tool does not display any DTC beginning with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTC beginning with a "U", perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  5. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, perform DTC B1000: CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
