DTC B0162: Temperature Sensor Circuit Open: Testing

  1. If DIC diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DIC diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. If DIC displays "OC", go to next step. If DIC does not display "OC", DTC is not present at this time. Check for intermittent or poor connections in related electrical connections. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . Repair wiring or connections as necessary.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect ambient air temperature sensor harness connector. Ambient air temperature sensor is located in front of radiator, right side of vehicle. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin harness connector terminal "A" (Light Green/Black wire) and terminal "B" (Black wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If DIC does not display SC, go to next step. If DIC displays SC, go to step  6 .
  4. Disconnect DIC connector. Test Light Green/Black wire between ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin harness connector terminal "A" and DIC harness connector terminal No. 10 for high resistance, open or short to voltage. See Figure . If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  5. Test Black wire between ambient air temperature sensor 2-pin harness connector terminal "B" and DIC harness connector terminal No. 8 for high resistance or open. If no problem is found, go to step  7 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  6. Check for poor connections at ambient air temperature 2-pin harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step  8 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  7. Check for poor connections at DIC harness connector. If no problem is found, go to step  9 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step  10 .
  8. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. After repair, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace DIC. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  10. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle under CODE ENABLE CRITERIA  conditions. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
