Powertrain Control Module (PCM) illuminates SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator/Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) when the following occurs: PCM detects a malfunction in emissions system, PCM performs displays test at start of each ignition cycle illuminating SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator for about 3 seconds, or ignition is in RUN position, with engine off.
