Displays & Gauges: Odometers
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is equipped with a season odometer and 2 trip odometers. IPC uses odometer rolling count message from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Rolling count value is determined by counting speed pulses from Vehicle Speed Signal (VSS). IPC uses rolling count data from PCM and a software program to determine vehicle mileage. Odometers can be displayed in miles or kilometers. Units displayed is switched between English and Metric by pressing E/M button on DIC (if equipped). When E/M button is pressed to show odometer in Metric, km and number will be displayed. When odometer is in English, only number will be displayed. During a bulb check, all segments on the odometer including "A", "B" and TRIP illuminate for 5 seconds.
Season odometer displays vehicle's total accumulated miles or kilometers. This value is permanently stored in IPC. If an odometer malfunction occurs or if IPC must be replaced, an authorized Delco Service Center must be contacted to program proper vehicle specifics (including mileage) into IPC. Season odometer is capable of displaying 999,999 kilometers or miles depending on units selected. Leading zeros are not displayed. Display will not roll-over to 000,000 if maximum displayed miles or kilometers are reached. If display limit is exceeded, maximum value (999,999) is displayed. If mileage is more than 621,503 miles and Metric units are selected, odometer will display 999,999 km.
Trip odometer displays accumulated miles or kilometers to tenths of a mile or kilometer since last reset. This value is stored in IPC. IPC has 2 trip odometers which can be selected by pressing trip reset button. If starting in season mode, pressing trip reset button puts vehicle in trip mode "A". Pressing trip reset button again will put vehicle in trip mode "B". Pressing trip reset button a third time will put vehicle in engine OIL LIFE LEFT Index. Pressing this button again will put vehicle back in season (total miles) mode. Displayed trip odometer is reset on IPC by pressing and holding trip reset button for 1.5 seconds. Vehicle must be in trip mode "A" or "B" in order to reset that specific trip odometer. Both trip odometers accumulate miles or kilometers even when they are not displayed. If trip reset button is pressed and held for 3 seconds while in trip mode "A" or "B", display will reset to number of miles/km travelled since start of current ignition cycle.
