DTC C1238: Brake Rotor Temperatures Have Exceeded Thermal Cutoff Point

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition off, with engine off. Using scan tool, select display DTCs function for EBCM. If scan tool indicates that this DTC is set as current, go to step  4 . If scan tool does not indicate that this DTC is set current, go to next step.
  3. Verify if this DTC is caused by excessive braking. If vehicle operation causes this DTC to set, check for excessive brake or TCS usage. Check brakelight for damage or misalignment. Repair as necessary. If no problems were found, go to next step.
  4. Allow 30 minutes from the last time vehicle was driven to allow brake rotors to cool down. Using a scan tool, observe BRAKE TEMPERATURE status parameter in ABS/TCS data list. If scan tool displays NORMAL, go to step  6 . If scan tool does not display NORMAL, go to next step.
  5. Check brakelight switch alignment. Adjust as necessary. After adjustment, go to step  8 . If adjustment is not necessary, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Drive and stop vehicle by applying brakes several times. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets, to next step. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
  7. Replace EBCM. After replacing EBCM, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Drive and stop vehicle by applying brakes several times. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
