Diagnostic Procedure
- If power seat system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If power seat system diagnostic system check has not be performed, perform POWER SEAT SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure. Using scan tool, monitor position sensor in Memory Seat Module (MSM) data list. If position sensor parameter is not 12-242 counts, go to next step. If position sensor parameter is 12-242 counts, problem may be intermittent. Check for intermittent and poor connections. See PRELIMINARY INSPECTION under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect suspect position sensor harness connector. Using scan tool, monitor position sensor parameter. If position sensor parameter is less than 12 counts, go to next step. If position sensor parameter is not less than 12 counts, go to step 10.
- Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between suspect position sensor 5-volt reference circuit (Orange wire) harness connector terminal and appropriate position sensor harness connector signal circuit terminal. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. Monitor position sensor parameter. If position sensor parameter is more than 242 counts, go to next step. If position sensor parameter is not more than 242 counts, go to step 8.POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
Application Wire Color Seat Recline Sensor White/Black Front Vertical Sensor Dark Green Horizontal Position Sensor Tan Rear Vertical Sensor Brown/White - Disconnect fused jumper wire. Measure voltage between appropriate position sensor harness connector Orange wire (5-volt circuit) terminal and position sensor harness connector low reference circuit terminal. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION . If less than 5 volts exists, go to next step. If 5 volts or more exists, go to step 7.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Measure resistance between ground and suspect position sensor low reference circuit terminal. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to step 11 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 12.
- Check for short to voltage in suspect position sensor 5-volt reference signal circuit (Orange wire) between position sensor harness connector and MSM harness connector C3 terminal A7. If circuit is okay, go to step 13. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Check for short to ground, open or high resistance in 5-volt reference signal circuit (Orange wire) between position sensor harness connector and MSM harness connector C3 terminal A7. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Check for short to ground, high resistance or open in appropriate position sensor low reference signal circuit between position sensor harness connector and MSM harness connector C3. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION . If circuit is okay, go to step 13. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Check for short to voltage in suspect low reference signal circuit between position sensor harness connector and MSM harness connector C3. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION . If circuit is okay, go to step 13. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Disconnect MSM Light Blue 24-pin harness connector C3. Check for high resistance or open in suspect position sensor low reference signal circuit between position sensor and MSM. See POSITION SENSOR LOW REFERENCE SIGNAL CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION . If circuit is okay, go to step 13. If circuit is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Check suspect position sensor connector for damage, intermittent or poor terminal contact. If connector and terminal contact is okay, go to step 14. If connector or terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Check MSM connector(s) for damage, intermittent or poor terminal contact. If connector and terminal contact is okay, go to step 15. If connector or terminal contact is not okay, repair as necessary. After repair, go to step 16.
- Replace suspect position sensor. After repair, go to step 16.
- Replace MSM. After repair, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate system to verify fault no longer exists. If DTC resets, go to step 2.
