Diagnostic Procedure

  1. If SIR diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If SIR diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
  2. Install scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located near base of steering column. Start engine. Using scan tool, observe IGNITION VOLTAGE reading. If voltage is less than 16 volts, go to next step. If voltage is higher than 16 volts, inspect and repair charging system. Go to step  8.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SDM connector. Inspect connector for signs of corrosion, poor connections or other damage. If connector is okay, go to next step. If connector is not okay, go to step  6.
  4. Using Digital Multimeter (J-39200), measure resistance between SDM terminal A9 and ground. If resistance is one ohm or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to step  7.
  5. Repair short to ground in AIR BAG warning light circuit. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  8.
  6. Replace SDM connector. See WIRE REPAIR . Go to step  8.
  7. Replace SDM. See SENSING & DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all SIR system components. Ensure that all components are properly mounted. Clear all SIR DTCs. Go to SIR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
