Timing Chain TENSIONER (Crankshaft): Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove timing chain housing. See TIMING CHAIN HOUSING (FRONT COVER) .
    NOTE: Align timing marks before disassembly. See Figure. Remove spark plugs to facilitate crankshaft rotation.
  2. Remove spark plugs. Position No. 1 cylinder at TDC. Align crankshaft keyway with mark on block. Ensure arrow on idler sprocket is at 6 o'clock position, and guide pins on camshaft sprockets align with notches on cylinder head. See Figure. Remove crankshaft timing chain tensioner bolts and remove crankshaft tensioner.
