Removal (Metro & Firefly (Canadian))

  1. Disable air bag see DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . If necessary, remove air bag inflator module, steering wheel, clockspring coil/combination switch. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR MODULE  and CLOCKSPRING COIL & COMBINATION SWITCH  .
  2. Remove steering column hole cover and knee bolster. Remove upper universal joint pinch bolt. Separate upper and lower steering shafts. Unplug wiring connectors to steering column.
    3. NOTE: Steering column and shaft are serviced as an assembly only. Do not attempt to disassemble shaft from steering column.
  3. Remove steering column mounting nuts. On A/T equipped models, remove shift interlock cable clamp screw at rear of ignition switch. Disconnect shift interlock cable from ignition switch. Pull steering column from vehicle.
