Test F: Oil Pressure Indicator Always On

NOTE: On 2.0L, models wire color for oil pressure switch changes color at harness connector P100 from Yellow/Black wire to Black wire. Harness connector P100 is located on right side of instrument panel, on bulkhead. On 2.5L models, wire for oil pressure switch changes color at harness connector P200 from Yellow/Black wire to Gray wire. Harness connector P200 is located on left side of instrument panel, on bulkhead.

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect oil pressure switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to START position and let engine idle. If oil pressure indicator remains on, go to next step. If oil pressure indicator goes off, go to step 3 .
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster for access to harness connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster Blue 10-pin harness connector. Using DVOM, check continuity between ground and instrument cluster Blue 10-pin harness connector terminal No. 3. See Figure . If continuity exists, repair short to ground in oil pressure switch circuit between instrument cluster and oil pressure switch. If continuity does not exist, check instrument cluster printed circuit for bad connections, cracks or other damage and replace as necessary.
Check engine oil level and add as necessary. If oil level is okay, diagnose low engine oil pressure. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If engine oil pressure is not within specification, repair engine as necessary. If engine oil pressure is within specification, replace oil pressure switch.
