Removal & Installation (Metro & Firefly (Canadian))

  1. Disable air bag system (if equipped). See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN .
  2. Mount steering column in a soft-jaw vise. Using hammer and center punch, remove ignition lock mounting bolts. Turn ignition switch to ON or ACC position, and remove ignition lock.
  3. To install, turn ignition switch to ON or ACC position. Position ignition lock on steering column tube. Tighten NEW shear bolts until heads break off. Ensure ignition lock operates properly. Install steering column. See STEERING COLUMN . Connect negative battery cable. Activate air bag system (if equipped). See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
