Test H: Tachometer Inaccurate Or Inoperative
- Review description and operation prior to performing test. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION .
- If other instrument cluster gauges are inoperative, go to next step. If other instrument panel gauges are not inoperative, go to step 4 .
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe instrument cluster harness connector C1 terminal No. 2. See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to step 5 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 6 .
- Turn ignition switch to START position and allow engine to obtain normal operating temperature. Measure tachometer frequency by backprobing instrument cluster harness connector C3 terminal No. 3 (Black wire). Tachometer frequency should be 18-25 Hz. If frequency is as specified, go to step 9 . If frequency is not as specified, repair open in Black wire between powertrain control module. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Replace instrument cluster printed circuit. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe junction block No. 3 harness connector C2 terminal No. 18 (Red/Blue wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 8 .
- Repair open in Red/Blue wire between junction block No. 3 and instrument cluster. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Replace junction block No. 3. After repair, go to step 11 .
- Check instrument cluster printed circuit for damage. If instrument cluster printed circuit is damaged, go to step 5 . If instrument cluster printed circuit is not damaged, go to next step.
- Replace tachometer. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step 3 .
