Test C: Chime Inoperative

  1. Review description and operation prior to performing test. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  .
  2. If chime is inoperative, go to next step. If chime is not inoperative, diagnose intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - PRIZM article.
  3. Remove and disconnect driver's side door ajar switch. Using a fused jumper wire, connect ground to driver's side door ajar switch terminal. Insert key into ignition switch. If chime sounds, go to next step. If chime does not sound, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace driver's side door ajar switch. After repair, go to step  8 .
  5. Reconnect driver's side door ajar switch. Disconnect key-in-ignition switch 2-pin harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect key-in-ignition switch harness connector terminals No. 1 (White/Black wire) and No. 2 (Blue/Black wire). Turn headlight switch to on. If chime does not sound, go to next step. If chime sounds, go to step  7 .
  6. Replace multifunction alarm module. Multifunction alarm module is located under left side of instrument panel, mounted to instrument panel junction box No. 2. After repair, go to step  8 .
  7. Replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  3 .
