Test M: Fasten Safety Belt Indicator/Chime Always On

  1. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform instrument cluster diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under instrument panel, right of steering wheel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ensure driver's seat belt is unbuckled. Using scan tool, observe SEAT BELT parameter in Body Control Module (BCM) data list. If scan tool displays BUCKLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUCKLED, diagnose intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's side seat belt harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe SEAT BELT parameter. If scan tool displays BUCKLED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUCKLED, go to step  6 .
  4. Disconnect BCM 24-pin harness connector C2. BCM is located under right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Black/White wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal B11 and driver's side seat belt terminal "A". See Figure . If resistance is 2 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/White wire between BCM and driver's side seat belt. After repair, go to step  9 .
  5. Check BCM harness connector for poor connection or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  7 . If problem does not exist, go to step  9 .
  6. Check seat belt harness connector for poor connection or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  8 . If problem does not exist, go to step  9 .
    7. NOTE: New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  7. Replace BCM. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace seat belt switch. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  2 .
