Test N: High Beam Indicator Inoperative

  1. If lighting system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If lighting system diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform lighting system diagnostic system check. See LIGHTING SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe high beam indicator on instrument cluster. If high beam indicator illuminates during bulb check, go to next step. If high beam indicator does not illuminate during bulb check, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn headlight switch to ON position. Turn dimmer switch to HIGH position. If high beam indicator does not illuminate, go to next step. If high beam indicator illuminates, check for intermittent condition. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Check instrument cluster harness connector for poor connections or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  6 . If problem does not exist, go to step  8 .
  5. Check BCM harness connector for poor connection or loose terminals. See INTERMITTENTS in TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES - CARS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem still exists, go to step  7 . If problem does not exist, go to step  8 .
  6. Replace Instrument Cluster. After repair, go to step  8 .
    7. NOTE: New BCM needs to be programmed. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article.
  7. Replace BCM. After repair, go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Operate vehicle to verify repair. If problem does not exist, system is okay. If problem still exists, go to step  2 .
