Description & Operation: Speedometer

Instrument panel cluster displays vehicle speed based on information from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM converts data from vehicle speed sensor to a 4000 pulses/mile signal. Instrument panel cluster uses vehicle speed signal circuit of 4000 pulses/mile from PCM in order to calculate vehicle speed. Speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) if a malfunction in vehicle speed signal circuit of 4000 pulses/mile exists or if BCM sends or receives invalid data with instrument panel cluster via Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
