Charging System Indicator

Body Control Module (BCM) sends a message to instrument panel cluster via Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) requesting illumination. Instrument panel cluster illuminates charging system indicator when the following occurs:

• PCM detects that generator output is less than 11 volts or greater than 16 volts. BCM receives a class 2 message from PCM requesting illumination. BCM also sends a class 2 message to radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• Instrument panel cluster performs displays test at start of each ignition cycle as commanded by BCM. Indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
• PCM determines that ignition is on, with engine off or ignition is in accessory position. BCM receives a class 2 message from PCM requesting illumination.
