Brake System Indicator

Body Control Module (BCM) sends a message to instrument panel cluster via Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) requesting illumination. Instrument panel cluster illuminates brake indicator when the following occurs:

• BCM detects that park brake is engaged. If vehicle speed is greater than 5 km/h (3.1 mph) with park brake engaged, BCM sends a class 2 message to radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• BCM detects a low brake fluid condition, signal circuit is low. BCM also sends a class 2 message to radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• BCM detects a malfunction in brake fluid level circuit. BCM also sends a class 2 message to radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) detects a malfunction in braking system. BCM receives a class 2 message from EBCM requesting illumination. BCM also sends a class 2 message to radio in order to activate an audible warning.
• Instrument panel cluster performs displays test at start of each ignition cycle as commanded by BCM. Indicator illuminates for approximately 3 seconds.
