Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe LH MIX MTR POSITION FEEDBACK parameter in heating and air conditioning, data list. If scan tool indicates LH MIX POSITION FEEDBACK parameter is within 5-250 counts, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicates LH MIX POSITION FEEDBACK parameter is within 5-250 counts, go to step  4.
  3. Place air temperature switch from warmest position to coldest position. If scan tool indicates value of LH MIX MTR POSITION FEEDBACK parameter remains near specified value of 127 counts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates value of LH MIX MTR POSITION FEEDBACK parameter does not remain near specified value of 127 counts, a disconnected or broken door my set this DTC by allowing left air temperature actuator to travel to its internal stops.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect left air temperature actuator. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between signal circuit at left air temperature actuator connector and ground. If voltage is greater than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 4.9 volts, go to step  9.
  5. Turn ignition off. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between signal circuit of left air temperature actuator and ground circuit of left air temperature actuator. Turn ignition on. If voltage is less than .09 volts, go to next step. If voltage is greater than .09 volts, go to step  10.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fused jumper wire. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between 5-volt reference circuit at left air temperature actuator connector and ground. If voltage is greater than 4.9 volts, go to step  8. If voltage is less than 4.9 volts, go to next step.
  7. Check 5-volt reference circuit of left air temperature actuator for a short to ground or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  13.
  8. Check 5-volt reference circuit of left air temperature actuator for a short to voltage, high resistance, or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  12.
  9. Check signal circuit of left air temperature actuator for a short to ground, or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  13.
  10. Check signal circuit of left air temperature actuator for short to voltage, high resistance, or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  11.
  11. Check ground circuit of left air temperature actuator for high resistance or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  13.
  12. Check for poor connections at harness connector of left air temperature actuator. Repair connector as necessary and go to step  16. If connector is okay, go to step  14.
  13. Check for poor connections at harness connector of HVAC control module. Repair connector as necessary and go to step  16. If connector is okay, go to step  15.
  14. Replace left air temperature actuator. See TEMPERATURE ACTUATORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  16.
  15. Replace HVAC control module. See HVAC CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  16. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle. Check for DTCs. If DTC B0361 is still present, go to step  2. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
