Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter in heating and air conditioning data list. If scan tool indicates SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter is within .09-4.9 volts, problem is intermittent. If parameter is not with .09-4.9 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect sun load sensor. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter. If scan tool indicates SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter is greater than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If scan tool indicates sun load sensor parameter is less than 4.9 volts, go to step  5.
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between signal circuit of sun load sensor and ground circuit of sun load sensor. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter. If scan tool indicates SUN LOAD SENSOR parameter is less than .09 volts, go to step  8. If scan tool indicates sun load sensor parameter is greater than .09 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Check signal circuit of sun load sensor for a short to ground. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  9.
  6. Check signal circuit of sun load sensor for a short to voltage, high resistance, or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  7. Check ground circuit of sun load sensor for high resistance or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  9.
  8. Check for poor connections at harness connector of sun load sensor. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to step  10.
  9. Check for poor connector at harness connector of HVAC control module. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to step  11.
  10. Replace sun load sensor. See SUN LOAD SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  12.
  11. Replace HVAC control module. See HVAC CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  12. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle. Check for DTCs. If DTC B0348 is still present, go to step  2. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
