Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. If diagnostic system check was not performed, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK . If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe OUTSIDE TEMP SENSOR parameter in heating and air conditioning data list. If scan tool indicates OUTSIDE TEMP SENSOR parameter is within .09-4.9 volts, problem is intermittent. If scan tool does not indicate OUTSIDE TEMP SENSOR parameter is within .09-4.9 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with the following control modules:
    • HVAC Control Module
    • Body Control Module
    • Powertrain Control Module
Does the scan tool communicate with the control modules? If so, go to next step. If not, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE in appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect 3-amp fused jumper wire between signal circuit of ambient air temperature sensor and ground circuit of ambient air temperature sensor. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, observe OUTSIDE TEMP SENSOR parameter. If scan tool indicates OUTSIDE AIR TEMP parameter is less than .09 volts, go to step  8. If scan tool indicates OUTSIDE AIR TEMP parameter is greater than .09 volts, go to step  6.
  5. Check signal circuit of ambient air temperature sensor for a short to ground. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  9.
  6. Check signal circuit of ambient air temperature sensor for a short to voltage, high resistance, or open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
  7. Check ground circuit of ambient air temperature sensor for high resistance or an open circuit. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to step  9.
  8. Check for poor connections at harness connector of ambient air temperature sensor. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to step  10.
  9. Check for poor connections at harness connector of HVAC control module. Repair connector as necessary. If connector is okay, go to step  11.
  10. Replace ambient air temperature sensor. See AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step  12.
  11. Replace HVAC control module. See HVAC CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to next step.
  12. Clear DTCs. Operate vehicle. Check for DTCs. If DTC B0332 is still present, go to step  2. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
