Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Sunfire and 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the cylinder head and gasket. See Figure.
  2. Install NEW cylinder head bolts.
  3. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) plus 155 degrees.

  4. Install the NEW front cylinder head bolts.

    Tighten

    Tighten the front cylinder head bolts to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).

  5. Install the timing chain. Refer to Timing Chain, Sprockets, and/or Tensioner Replacement .
  6. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to EXHAUST MANIFOLD REPLACEMENT (2.2L (L61)) .
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  9. Install the power steering pump.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering pump bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING COOLING SYSTEM (L61) .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
