Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation

- Install the PNP switch.
- Install the shifter cable bracket.
- Install the lower transaxle-to-engine stud. See Figure .
- Install the transaxle mount.
- Position the transaxle in the vehicle.
- Install the lower transaxle-to-engine bolts and nuts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using appropriate flushing equipment, flush transaxle oil cooler. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article as follows:
- For 2002 models: see SERVICING - A/T article.
- For 2003 models: see SERVICING - A/T article.
- Lubricate the transaxle cooler pipes before inserting into seals.
- Connect the transaxle cooler pipes to the transaxle. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Using appropriate flywheel holding tool, prevent crankshaft from rotating.
- Install the torque converter-to-flywheel bolts. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the wheel drive shafts to the transaxle. See appropriate AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES.
- Connect the wiring harness to the VSS. See Figure .
- Install the starter. See appropriate STARTERS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Install the flywheel inspection cover bolts. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Use the engine support fixture to raise the engine and transaxle assembly.
- Install the transaxle mount-to-body bolts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Raise the vehicle.
- Reposition the wiring harness into its clips on the body rail.
- Install the front suspension support assembly. See Fig 1 .
- Connect the ball joints to the steering knuckles. See appropriate FRONT article in SUSPENSION.
- Route and clip the wheel speed sensor wiring into the proper position on both sides.
- Install the steering gear to the front suspension crossmember.
- Install the steering gear bolts to the front suspension crossmember. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transaxle brace bolts. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the left front fender liner.
- Install the front wheel and tire assemblies. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the upper transaxle-to-engine bolts and stud. See Figure . Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the engine wiring harness grounds to the transaxle-to-engine mount stud and nut. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the engine support fixture.
- Install the shift linkage to the transaxle. See Figure .
- Connect the electrical connectors to the PNP switch and transaxle. See Figure .
- Connect the air duct hose to the intake plenum.
- Connect the negative (-) battery cable. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Inspect the transaxle fluid level. See LUBRICATION in appropriate SERVICING article as follows:
