Circuit Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Sunfire and 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) monitors front end discriminating sensor for frontal impact detection. SDM processes signal from front end discriminating sensor to further support air bag deployment. Discriminating sensor is an input only device for SDM and does not trigger air bag deployment. When ignition switch is turned on, SDM performs continuous diagnostic tests on deployment loops to check for circuit continuity and shorts to ground or voltage.
