Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform diagnostic system check - engine controls. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE CONTROLS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing diagnostic system check - engine controls, go to next step.
- Is DTCs P0446, P0452, P0453, P0461, P0462, P0463, or P1441 also set? If yes, diagnose affected DTC(s). See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, go to next step.
- Inspect the EVAP system for a loose, missing, or damaged service port Schrader valve, a loose, incorrect, missing or damaged fuel fill cap, or a damaged EVAP canister purge valve. Raise vehicle on a hoist. Inspect the EVAP system for disconnected, improperly routed, kinked, or damaged EVAP pipes and hoses, or a damaged EVAP canister vent valve or EVAP canister. Did you find and correct the condition? If yes, go to step 6 . If no, go to next step.
- Install the J-41415-40 Fuel Fill Cap Adapter. Connect the J-41413 and the fuel tank cap to the J-41415-40. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Use a scan tool to clear the DTCs from the PCM. Command the EVAP vent valve ON with a scan tool. Pressurize the EVAP system to 15 in. H2O with the J-41413. Place the control knob on the J-41413 to the OFF/HOLD position. Monitor the EVAP system pressure on the J-41413 for 5 minutes. Does the EVAP system pressure remain constant? If yes, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If no, go to next step.
- With the J-41413, continuously attempt to pressurize the EVAP system. With the J-41416, inspect for leaks in the EVAP system purge pipe, EVAP vapor pipe, EVAP vent hose/pipe, fuel fill pipe/hose and fuel fill cap, EVAP canister, EVAP canister vent valve, EVAP canister purge valve, fuel sender assembly and/or seal, FTP sensor seal, fill limiter vent valve, pressure relief valve, rollover valves, and fuel tank. Did you find and repair the condition? If yes, go to next step. If no, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- Turn ignition on, with engine off. Command the EVAP vent valve ON with a scan tool. Pressurize the EVAP system to 15 in. H2O with the J-41413. Place the control knob on the J-41413 to the OFF/HOLD position. Monitor the EVAP system pressure on the J-41413 for 5 minutes. Does the EVAP system pressure remain constant? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 2 .
- Using scan tool, observe stored information and Capture Info. Does the scan tool display any DTCs that you have not diagnosed? If yes, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, system is okay.
NOTE:
Always zero the EVAP pressure and vacuum (in. H2O) gauges on the EVAP pressure/purge diagnostic station before proceeding with diagnosis.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to partially lower fuel tank to inspect components located in upper portion of tank.
